Colourful peacock

Saturday, August 24, 2019

You may recall my very regal peacock a few blog posts ago.  Here's a more colourful version for a more casual (and less dramatic) occasion.

I used the baby wipe technique to stamp the peacock.  Place drops of the colour you wish for the body of the peacock in the upper section of the wipe, and then dot randomly with colours below that.  Then make sure you stamp down so that the body is predominantly in the block of colour and the tail is in the dots of colour area.

To finish it off I used my aqua painter to flick drops of ink and water onto the page, and added some rhinestones to the tail.

Adding a slight shadow around an image can help give it dimension on the page.  That's what I've done in these cards to the postman and his parcels.

To break up the white of the circle and the base cardstock I also added a light shading to the edge of the circle.  It's not so pronounced as if I'd used a sponge dauber - I was after a subtler look.  (Although, it's much more visible to the naked eye than the camera I'm afraid.)

Take a look a the video below to see how I created this look using a watercolour pencil as well as how I coloured the images in with my Blends.

I'm getting good at remembering to decorate the inside of my cards!

Here's my video (which was originally a Facebook live - if you want to catch me in action, be sure to follow my Facebook page.)

I'm so happy with these cards!  They warm my crafty heart up.  Hope you love them too.

Blends on Crumbcake Tutorial

Sunday, August 11, 2019

It's nice to mix up card designs by choosing a background cardstock that is not Whisper White, however, it's difficult to get colours to pop off the page in the same way.  I've got a neat trick for you to get Blends looking more vibrant on Crumbcake cardstock.

In my video below I have also explained my suggested card dimensions when layering the Rectangular Stitched Shapes framelits like I've done in this card here.

The video below also gives step by step instructions on achieving this bolder look and for suggested Blends colours for the skin tone, water, and hair in this stamped image.

Video tutorial:

What you'll need if you'd like to make this card yourself:
Crumbcake cardstock (folded card = 5 1/2" x 8 1/4" scored in half), the largest of the Rectangle Stitched Shapes framelits, Beautiful You stamp set, Black Memento ink, Whisper White watercolour pencil, Blends of your colour choice, Stampin' Dimensionals.

Have you noticed that one side of Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper has a detailed pattern and the other is more of a background kind of pattern?  It's such a help when coordinating colours with a design.

Here I've used Bird Ballard DSP and I've taken one of the background patterns to match my circle with the little bird in the flowers.  So effortless!  I used my Layering Circle dies and selected coordinating colour Old Olive as my border colour.

The sentiment is from the Free as a Bird stamp set.  A quick, easy, and cute card!  Give it a go yourself.

Celebration

Regal Peacock

Saturday, August 03, 2019

Peacocks are so majestic.  When I saw our Royal Peacock stamp set I knew I wanted to create a card that allowed the stunning peacock to reign over the page.  A very simple card but very very effective.

White emboss the peacock image onto the card (don't forget to use an Embossing buddy to stop those stray specs of white from ruining the deep Night of Navy background).  Then using Blends of your choice, colour rhinestones and once dry add them to the feathers of the bird.

Create an interior to match the reason for sending the card, and hey presto, finished!
