Fiona's RAK cards revealed

Thursday, June 30, 2016

By now all my RAK cards should arrived at their destinations so I can reveal all five designs and feel sure that it won't spoil the surprise.

I wanted to make different variations on the same design.  I wanted a design that was fairly easy to do in bulk but wasn't overly simple.  And I wanted a design that let the recipient know that they are special, because each and everyone of you really is very special.

Fiona's Notes: The images are all coloured in using aqua painters.  (And I've just noticed I totally forgot to colour in the little fish on the submarine card!  Oh no!  Sorry to whoever got that one.)

Stamps: You're Sublime  Inks: Basic Black, various colours for the colouring in  Paper: Whisper White thick, Whisper White, Marina Mist, Daffodil Delight, Garden Green, Wisteria Wonder, Real Red  Accessories: Aqua painters

Global Design Project Challenge #041

Monday, June 27, 2016

My granie-upline, Kylie Bertucci, has been coaxing me to play along with the Global Design Project ever since it started.  For one reason or another I haven't been able to.  But not any more!  Today's the day I play along!  This week's challenge is a colour challenge.  Here's the brief (click on the image to go to the GDP page):

And here's my entry:

Fiona's Notes: It took me a while trying to place the sentiment piece so that it stood out sufficiently against the diagonal background I had created using strips of DSP.  I was hesitant to cut into the background after all the work it took me to place the pieces at just the right distance and angle, but I'm so glad I did because now the sentiment really pops out.

Stamps: Confetti Celebration  Inks: Sweet Sugarplum  Papers: Whisper White, Sweet Sugar Plum, Night of Navy  Accessories: Circles Layering framelits, Stampin Dimensionals

Thanks so much for stopping by today, don't forget to check out all the other fabulous entries,

Crazy Crafter's Blog Hop with France Martin

Sunday, June 26, 2016

This month the Crazy Crafters are blog hopping with the super talented France Martin (who many of you will know affectionately as "Frenchie.")  We have to CASE (Copy and Selectively Edit) one of her cards.  Here's the one I chose for my inspiration:

And here's my card:

Fiona's Notes:  The way I've CASEd France's card is by picking up on her triple panel layout and use of ribbon.  I added a sentiment to mine though and tied it in with a panel theme running the opposite orientation.

Stamps: Better together  Inks: Melon Mambo, Versamark  Papers: It's My Party DSP, Basic Black, Whisper White  Accessories: Melon Mambo & Basic Black twine

B&W Wedding

Saturday, June 25, 2016

A friend recently asked me to make her a black and white wedding card.  I know pearls aren't strictly white, but I think they passed the cut on this card and have brought that wedding feeling to it.

Fiona's Notes: If you don't have a diagonal scor-pal mark centimetre intervals along all sides of the card on the back and then use those to keep your score lines even.

Stamps: Itty Bitty Banners  Inks: Basic Black  Papers: Basic Black, Whisper White  Accessories: pearls, Stampin Write Marker, ribbon

It's my party and I'll use retired stock if I want to!

Wednesday, June 22, 2016

I know this paper is retired now but I just love it so much that I still have a few cards I want to make with it so I hope you don't mind me including it in today's card.

Fiona's Notes: People are always asking me for masculine cards and here's one that can easily be adapted to either a guy or a girl by simply highlighting different colours in the DSP. I went for Crushed Curry and Melon Mambo but there's also Sahara Sand and Mint Macaroon to choose from.

Stamps: Balloon Celebration  Inks Basic Black, Melon Mambo, Crushed Curry  Papers: Whisper White, Basic Black, Melon Mambo, Crushed Curry, It's My Party DSP  Accessories: Stampin Dimensionals

CASED from: Valerie - thanks so much!

Happy Birthday blocks

Sunday, June 19, 2016

I have seen lots of cards out there which use a technique called "colour blocking" and have been wanting to try it for a while.  I finally had some inspiration and although the end result was different to the cards I had commonly seen (where they have put images inside the blocks rather than what I did which was to place the sentiment over multiple blocks) I think it turned out really well.  Don't you?  I'm going to try some other types of colour blocking soon because I just love the crisp clean lines and the no-fuss look of the card.

Fiona's notes
  • The trickiest thing about this card is getting the blocks the right size.  Unfortunately I have no tips, I just winged it!  I'd love to hear some easier ways to be able to get it right quickly and easily.
  • I picked the colours from the It's My Party DSP because it's one of my favourite colour combinations.  I just LOVE how they look together.
  • For that extra "oumph" I embossed the sentiment.

Stamps: Sunburst Sayings  Inks: Memento Black, Versamark  Papers: Melon Mambo, Mint Macaron, Crushed Curry  Accessories: Black Embossing Powder, Stampin Dimensionals

Host code: I've put the current host code in the top right hand corner of the page so that you will always know what the current code is.  Enter it at the checkout for all orders under $250 so that I can share the host bonus gifts with you.  (All orders over $250 get their own!  But don't worry, I still send small gifts to those people in the mail.)

RAK cards ready and posted

Thursday, June 16, 2016

I've been such a busy beaver this month designing and making all your RAK (Random Act of Kindness) cards.  I was delighted so many of you took me up on my offer to receive one.  I am sending them out to people who are in every corner of Australia as well as a stack of you around the globe in eight other countries.

You will be happy to know that they are now all posted and that you should start to receive them very soon.  Check my blog over the course of next week to see the five designs I came up with.

Now here's a challenge for you: send a RAK card of your own to someone.  It's such a heart warmer for the sender as well as the receiver.  Pop one in the post today!
