Thank you

Crushed Curry Thanks

Saturday, April 30, 2016

Here's my third thank you card for the birthday gift box of cards I'm making my friend.  This one's bright and colourful and I just love it.

Fiona's Notes:  The flower is made up of a layer of Crushed Curry punched with the Pansy Punch, then on top of that I stamped the image onto Vellum, waited for it to dry and then punched that out and popped it on top with a candy dot to finish it off.

Stamps: Sunburst Sayings, Flower Shop  Inks: Crushed Curry, White Craft  Papers: Crushed Curry, Whisper White, Eastern Elegance DSP, Vellum  Accessories: Pansy Punch, Regals Candy Dots

CASED from: Darlene - thank you so much!

Thanks for dinner

Thursday, April 28, 2016

Here's my second thank you card for the birthday gift box of cards I'm making my friend.  This one's perfect for a dinner thank you.

Fiona's Notes:  It's a little hard to see in the photo but the cutlery are just die cut out and the grey behind them is the base cardstock. There's a shadow cast by the angle of the photo which makes it look like I've done some shading!  The banner is fussy cut and stuck over the top with dimensionals.

Stamps: Endless Thanks  Inks: Crushed Curry, Basic Black  Papers: Crushed Curry, Whisper White thick, Smoky Slate  Accessories: Cups and Kettles Framelits, Stampin Dimensionals

CASED from: Valerie Moody - thank you so much!

Big Meaning Thanks

Tuesday, April 26, 2016

For the next four posts I'm going to share with you a gift I'm giving to a friend of mine for his birthday.  He's one of those super thoughtful people who sends cards to thank people for inviting him over for dinner.  It's a bit of a lost etiquette these days, sadly.  So I wanted to be encouraging of his practice and I've made him cards in three different designs and an envelope gift box to present them in.

Today's card starts this gorgeous stamp from the One Big Meaning set and I've let it be the star all on it's own .

Fiona's notes: One of my favourite techniques is using Stampin Write Markers to colour directly onto a stamp so that you can get different colours in one hit.  Look how well it turned out on this card!  It allows this stamp to be the star without any other embellishments.

Stamps: One Big Meaning  Paper: Whisper White Thick  Accessories: Stampin Write Markers, Stampin Dimensionals

Inspired By: Charlet - thank you so much!

Curvy Keepsake Box

There once was a penguin and a little chick...

Saturday, April 23, 2016

You may recall the penguin and chick theme that a good friend of mine and I have going.  Here are a couple of curvy keepsake boxes I made him for his birthday.  I completely forgot to take a photo of them to show you, so this photo's thanks to him.  Aren't they cute?

Thanks so much for dropping by today,

They Say It's Your Birthday

Wednesday, April 20, 2016

I love having birthday cards on hand that are suitable for both guys and girls.  This one is perfect for both.

Fiona's Notes:
  • I inked up my stamp with my marker pens to get the dual colour effect.  I love doing that, it's so effective.
  • The gold balloon strings are the gold part of the Metalic Gold Bakers Twine which I unravelled from the natural twine.  The bow is made from the discarded natural twine and stuck on with a glue dot.
Stamps: Balloon Celebration, Suite Sayings  Inks: Mint Macaron, Crumb Cake  Papers: Whisper White thick, Mint Macaron, It's My Party DSP  Accessories: Stampin Write Markers, Metallic Gold Bakers Twine, Glue Dots, Stampin Dimensionals

Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with Brian King

Sunday, April 17, 2016

Yippee, yippee, yippee it's time to blog hop with Brian King.  Can you tell how excited I am?  Brian is one of my all time favourite Stampers.  Not only are his designs amazing but he is just the loveliest person who takes so much time out of his day to comment on other blogs and send encouraging messages to stampers all around the world.

His falling dots on this card grabbed my attention and I thought the concept would make a nice wedding card.

Here's my CASE (Copy And Selectively Edit) of his Halloween card:

Fiona's notes: The floral stamp from Timeless Love is only a semi-circle.  Thanks to my trusty Stamp-a-ma-jig (yes, that's its official name!) I was able to stamp it into a perfect circle.

Stamps: Timeless Love, Blessed by God  Inks: Memento Black, Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzaz  Papers: Blushing Bride, Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White  Accessories: Blender Pens, Rhinestones

Have a Beautiful Birthday

Monday, April 11, 2016

Today I want to go through CASING in a bit more detail.  CASE means either to "Copy And Share Everything" or "Copy and Selectively Edit."  Both are fine to do and in either case make sure you
link back to the original card which gave you the inspiration so that people know where
the original design is.

I'm going to Copy and Selectively Edit this pretty card from Tami White and I will run through with you how I got from hers to mine.  Tami's steps are in blue and mine are in orange.

  1. Stamp Set - Tami's flowers are from the Beautiful Bouquet and made a "thinking of you" card. I used the Birthday Blossoms set and made a birthday card.
  2. Ink - Tami stamped in Black Stazon and coloured in Blackberry Bliss and Mossy Meadow inks using an aqua painter.  I also used aqua painters.  First I added a green background before stamping my flowers on.  I stamped my flowers in Blackberry Bliss.  Then with my aqua painters, instead of inking them up I just started to gentle colour my flowers.  They picked up the ink from the flower outlines and that was all the ink I needed.
  3. Paper - Tami used a black border on a Blackberry Bliss base.  I kept the borders but used a Blackberry Bliss on Whisper White combo.
  4. AccessoriesTami accented her flowers with a white gel pen.   I used rhinestones to bring a bit of life to my flowers

So there you have it.  A bit of a guide to CASEing to help you draw inspiration on a design but then making it your own.  Thanks so much, Tami, for sharing your beautiful designs with us all.

Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with Dawn Griffith

Sunday, April 03, 2016

This month the Crazy Crafters have TWO blog hops scheduled!  These are so much fun to take part in so I'm super excited.  The first is with the lovely Dawn Griffith CASEing (Copy And Selectively Edit) one of her creations.

Here's the card I chose:

And here's my card:

Fiona's Notes:
  • A good friend of mine left town yesterday and I wanted to send him off with one of my cards so I was excited to have Dawn's card to inspire my design for this.
  • I've flipped Dawn's idea of the cut out numbers around by embossing mine and popping up the key characters with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • Instead of using rhinestones for a lift on my card I went with White Bakers Twine wrapped around the base card itself to centre my lettering.
Stamps: Epic Alphabet  Inks: Kraft White, Versamark  Papers: Pacific Point  Accessories: White Embossing Powder, Clear Embossing Powder, Stampin Dimensionals, Whisper White Bakers Twine
