Just Add Ink #578 | Sketch

With the sunshine and warmer weather my garden has been attracting lots of beautiful butterflies. They bring such a sense of peace and presence to a moment and I always love seeing them.  (**read on for my blog give away!!**)

So for this week's Just Add Ink challenge I'm celebrating butterflies.  Click on the image below to see the design team's inspiration and to enter your own card in the challenge.  I can't wait to see what you create.

I made these cards with the Brilliant Wings Dies and the Bedazzled Butterflies DSP (the latter is now retired, but read on for my tip about this if you don't have it).

Tip 1: Coordinating Colours
Did you know that on the back of each pack of Designer Series Paper there is a list of the coordinating colours?

For my first card I used this list to pick out coordinating colours for my strips of cardstock.  Each strip is 1cm wide.  I had intended for the colours to the other way around with the blue on top and pink on the bottom to match the butterflies, but I accidentally flipped them at some point and didn't notice until I went to take the photo.  Oops!  But it still works!

I used glitter paper for this next card and chose pink and silver because that's what I had in my craft room.  (I'm all about using what you've got and not wasting retired product.)  This would look equally wonderful with the Rose and Rose Gold Glitter Paper that is currently in store.

My third card is classic black and white because those butterflies are extra large and already colourful enough.

Tip 2: The dies coordinate with the stamps AND paper!
That's right, the Brilliant Wings dies line up with the ways the butterflies are laid out on the stamp (they are all on one stamp) AND the layout of the butterflies on one of the sheets of printed paper.  That means whether you use the stamp or the paper you only need to run your die through the cutting machine once to cut out all six butterflies.

Tip 3: Use what you have, and be creative!
Don't have any of the Bedazzled Butterflies DSP?  Stamp your own butterflies using the coordinating stamp set Butterfly Brilliance.  Click the image below to see the bundle (you save 10% buying the stamps and dies together).
