Flourishing Daisies

Monday, May 30, 2016

This beautiful stamp set is about to retire.  Tomorrow in fact!  So I wanted to send it off with a fond farewell with this Pootles CASE.  Her card was the reason I bought the set so it seemed only fitting to use it as the set's swan song.

Fiona's notes: The triple layer of marina mist cardstock gives dimension without detracting from the main event, the gorgeous flourish and the flowers.  It's very rare that I'd layer with the same colour but it is definitely the right choice for this card.

Mini Love Heart Congratulations

Monday, May 23, 2016

Here's a great card that is super quick and easy to make to go with a gift for a newly engaged couple or for the wedding day itself.

Fiona's notes: The sentiment is from the Itty Bitty Banners (it's an oldie but such a goodie) which I inked up using a marker pen so that I got just the sentiment and not the banner part.

Stamps: Itty Bitty Banners  Papers: Stacked with Love DSP, Basic Black, Real Red  Accessories: Real Red Stampin Write Marker

Kind Koala

Friday, May 20, 2016

When I came across this cute little guy I was so excited that Stampin' Up!, an American company, had produced a stamp of such an Aussie icon.  I thought I'd use it loads but sadly have hardly used it at all.  In fact, I think this is only my second card with it.

Fiona's notes:

  • Create an added dimension to stamped images by dotting a coordinating marker pen around the sentiment, or as in this case, around other areas of the stamped image.
  • The flower is stamped onto Marina Mist and then fussy cut and fit back on top of the image.

Stamps: Kind Koala  Inks: Basic Black  Papers: Sahara Sand, Marina Mist  Accessories: Basic Black Marker, White gel pen

Baby 3x3 gift cards

Wednesday, May 18, 2016

Recently a friend told me that she keeps giving people two baby cards by accident.  She posts one upon hearing the news of the baby's arrival and then she forgets she's done that and gives another card with a gift when she first visits.  So I came up with a solution for her.  Baby gift cards!

Fiona's Notes: I used my piercing tool and mat to make small holes in the booties before threading some bakers twine through and adhering at the back.  Although it looks as though I've done the same up the top before tying it off, I have actually just stuck the bow on with a glue dot.

Stamps: Something for Baby, Zoo Babies  Inks: Marina Mist, Sky Blue, Pink Pirouette, Blushing Bride  Paper: Subtles DSP, Whisper White Thick  Accessories: Baby's First Framelits Dies, Whisper White bakers twine, Glue dots

Happy Birthday Sweet Lil Thing

Monday, May 16, 2016

Today's post picks up on the last and turns thank you cards into birthday ones.  I've made a few changes to match the theme and different DSP but otherwise the concept is the same.  I'm torn!  Do you prefer the thank you cards or the birthday ones?

Thank You Sweet Lil Thing

When a friend of mine saw me making these she thought they were very "Fitzroy chic".  You have to be from Melbourne to get the reference but suffice it to say that she loved them.  Her favourite was the strawberry one. I can't decide, I love them all!  Which is your favourite?

Fiona's notes: Although you can't see it in the photo I actually stamped the discs behind the sentiment with the gorgeous grunge stamp in Sahara Sand just to give it a bit of added dimension.

A World of Thanks

Thursday, May 12, 2016

Stampin' Up is on a #imbringingbackbirthdays campaign but I want to go one further and bring back thank you cards! We don't send enough, do we?  Why not try this card out? It's made from just one stamp!  Can you believe it?  I loved it so much that I made it my April thank you card to all my lovely customers who placed orders in April through my online store.
#imbringingthankyoucardsback

Fiona's Notes: I tried doing this a few different ways. By using stamp pads and taping up the stamp between colours, or by colouring directly with makers.  If I used markers I tried colouring everything and then stamping, and I also tried colouring one marker at a time.  This is the method I ended up going with to get the best result.  It might look like a quite and simple card but it was actually quite fiddly in the end getting the stamping right.  I think it's worth it though, don't you?

Crazy Crafter's Blog Hop with Dena Rekow

Sunday, May 08, 2016

This month my team is CASEing (Copy and Selectively Edit) Dena Rekow.  I wanted to make a wedding card for a work colleague of mine so I chose this lovely card of hers:

And here's my take on her design, just perfect for a guy on his wedding day, don't you think?:

CASE Notes:  My black additions to the card design help make it more suitable for giving to a guy on his wedding day and goes so well with the red and black theme of the card.

Stamps: Balloon Celebration  Inks: Basic Grey, Basic Black, Real Red, Calyso Coral, Blushing Bride  Papers: Real Red, Basic Black, Stacked with Love DSP, Whisper White, Vellum  Accessories: Stampin Dimensionals

World's Best Mother

Friday, May 06, 2016

When a few friends asked me to make them Mothers' Day cards the Have A Nice Cuppa set was the first thing that came to mind.  The stamp "world's greatest mother" is perfect for this very occasion.

Fiona's notes:
  • I wanted to incorporate the sentiment on the front of the card but didn't want it to compete with the central image so I chose to make it a background.
  • It's always hard to capture the Wink of Stella pen in photos but have a close look a the little love heart, it's sparkling!

Stamps: A Nice Cuppa, Endless Thanks  Inks: Rose Red, Pink Pirouette  Papers: Rose Red, Whisper White  Accessories: Cups and Kettles Framelits, Wink of Stella, Rhinestones

Artichoke Card Gift Box

Monday, May 02, 2016

Over the past three posts I've shown you thank you cards which I've made for a friend as a birthday gift.  Now I need to present them in something fitting so here's the gift box that I've made for it.  I think it goes with the theme quite well, don't you?

Fiona's Notes: I used this video tutorial from UK demo Lizy (thanks Lizy!) in the hope that it would suit Australian sized cards (UK and Australia have the same sized A4 paper which differs to the USA) however it wasn't quite as nice a fit as I'd have liked.  So I fiddled with the measurements a bit and now I can't remember what I did to be able to share it with you!  The instructions Lizy gives you are still good though so go ahead and follow them.
