Shadow boxes for friends

I've had a few customer orders lately for my shadow boxes lately and wanted to share a couple with you.  I'm working on some new designs so keep an eye out for those in early 2016.  Can't wait to show you!

Hope you have been enjoying the festive season.

A Penguin's Christmas

Friday, December 25, 2015

I know, I know it's summer in Australia now and so there's no snow here at Christmas but I have spent many  Christmases in Europe that I have to admit, I'm rather a fan of the festive season being in cooler climates.  Here's a special card I made for a very good friend of mine who is quite partial to the odd penguin or two.

Fiona's notes: The owl punch makes all sorts of cute little punch art characters like these penguins.  Just chop off the feet and ears and punch another set of feet from an orange cardstock.  In the same colour cardstock use the owl punch heart for the beak.  If you want wings, glue the chopped off ears back on.

Stamps: Signature Christmas (Papertrey Ink)  Inks: Cherry Cobbler  Papers: Soft Sky, Chocolate Chip, Basic Black, Whisper White, Tangerine Tango, Real Red  Accessories: Owl Punch, Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder

CASED from Julie Oliver - thanks so much!

Merry Christmas everyone!  I hope it is a time of great peace and joy for you all.

Hoo-ray 3x3

Thursday, December 24, 2015

There are so many amazing teachers out there who do wonderful things for their students.  One of my friends is one such teacher. She commissioned (and paid out of her own pocket for) 50 cards to give to her students on their graduation so that she could write an individual message to each of them.  HOW NICE IS THAT?

Fiona's Notes:  These are 3x3 cards which fit perfectly into the SU square envelopes.

Stamps: Be the Star  Inks: Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler, Coastal Cabana, Crushed Curry, Memento Black  Papers: Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler, Coastal Cabana, Crushed Curry, Whisper White, Whisper White thick  Accessories: Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler, Coastal Cabana, and Crushed Curry Bakers Twines, Star Framelits, 1" punch, rhinestones

CASED from: Caro Jaartjes - thanks so much!

Blog hop

Crazy Crafters and Pootlers Blog Hop

Sunday, December 20, 2015

My Stampin' Up! team, The Crazy Crafters, have been on an excited high for weeks preparing for this month's blop hop.  Why?  Because we are teaming up with Stampin' Up! UK's top demonstrator Pootles (Sam Donald) and her team the Pootlers to bring you one massive Aussie-UK blog hop.

The theme this month is "One" from the Occasions catalogue which will be on general release on 5 January.  We can use only one ink, one DSP, one cardstock etc.

Fiona's Notes
  • To get the cups to link I die cut the one of the right with the front of the DSP facing down (so, back to front) and then made a small incision in the handle in the area tucked behind the left hand side tea cup.
  • The sentiment is "shadow" stamped.  You will see a faint outline of Smoky Slate behind the Blackberry Bliss (neutrals are not counted which is why I have two inks.)
  • The steam is dotted on using a Smoky Slate Stampin' Write Marker
Stamps:  A Nice Cuppa  Inks: Blackberry Bliss, Smoky Slate  Paper: Wildflower Fields DSP, Lost Lagoon, Whisper White  Accessories: Stampin' Write Marker, Stampin' Dimensionals

If you haven't got a demonstrator who you already order through and would like a copy of the Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogues you can sign up here and I will send you one.

Holy Family Christmas Card

Tuesday, December 08, 2015

I have a lot of requests from friends to make religious cards for various occasions because nice ones are hard to find in shops.  This year for Christmas I put a bit of a spin on one of Brian King's cards.  Can you believe I hand coloured in 100 little Holy Families?!

Fiona's notes: By using blender pens to colour in the stamp it softens the colours making it fit better with the softer theme of the Holy Family

Stamps: All Ye Faithful  Inks: Stayzon Black, Soft Sky, Pink Pirouette, Baked Brown Sugar, Daffodil Delight  Papers: Sahara Sand, Whisper White, Something Borrowed DSP  Accessories: Circles Framelits, Blender pens

Inspired by: Brian King - thank you so much, love your work!

Christmas star

Sunday, December 06, 2015

Way back in my working days in Paris blue and silver were all the rage for Christmas and it has always stuck with me.  So here's a pretty little card made in Night of Navy and silver foil to honour those days.

The trick to getting the card to fold is to cut a front piece in a single layer of Night of Navy.  Then fold a sheet of Whisper White (or you could use NoN again and add a white lining piece) in half and place the die so that one point of the star is above the fold line.  When you run it through your big shot you will then get a card effect as you can see below.  Stick one side to the front sheet and hey presto, you've got a beautiful folding star card!

Stamps: Bright and Beautiful  Inks: Night of Navy  Papers: Night of Navy, Whisper White Thick, Whisper White, Silver foil sheet Accessories:  Stars Framelit Dies

CASED from: Nicky Spencer - thanks so much!

Submarine Birthday

Saturday, November 28, 2015

Although this is predominantly a blue card, I think that it can be for both girls as well as boys.  And why not for some adults as well?  Who doesn't wish they could be in a cute little submarine under water?

Fiona's notes:
  • I first stamped the submarine onto Whisper White, then onto Pacific Point.  I fussy cut the body of the submarine and the tip of the telescope.
  • The port holes on the submarine are in Pool Party cut with the Owl Builder Punch - perfect size!
  • The rest of the submarine is coloured in Smoky Slate using my blender pen, and the fish with a Stampin Write Marker for extra colour.
Stamps: You're Sublime, Something to Say  Inks: Memento Black, Smoky Slate  Papers: Pacific Point, Whisper White, Pool Party, School House DSP  Accessories: Blender Pens, Circles Framelits, Owl Builder Punch, Bermuda Bay Twine, White Accents.

CASED from: Connie Babert  - thank you so much!

Gift vouchers

Sunday, November 22, 2015

Do you always have a wish list of Stampin' Up! products you'd like to buy but are saving your pennies for Christmas?  Why not ask your family and friends to give you a voucher! Or why not get a few yourself to give as presents.

Of course, vouchers can be given at any time and so I have gift wallets to suit every occasion (see order form for options).

And don't forget, with every purchase I send my customers a hand made thank you card and a gift.  Check back later in the week to see my blog post showing what November's gift was.

Big Brother

Monday, November 09, 2015

Isn't it fun to be able to give the older sibling of a newborn a card to congratulate his or her new status in life?  Here's one I made for a little boy who recently became a big brother for the first time.

Fiona's Notes
  • Goodness only knows why the card looks black in the photo - it's Night of Navy, I swear!!
  • These cute fish are made with circle punches and the owl punch as well as the itty bitty heart punch.  Super cute or what?
  • The sentiment is printed not stamped.  Why not make one as a birthday card?

Papers: Night of Navy, Whisper White, Colour Me Autumn DSP Accessories Owl punch, Itty Bitty Accessories punches, Circle Punches

Sieze the Cake

Tuesday, November 03, 2015

How much fun is this?  A card on a card!  It provides a front sentiment, as well as an inside one, but gives you all that room within the card itself for writing.  I just love it.

Fiona's notes:
  • Stampin' Up! doesn't have a twine to match Very Vanilla, so I removed the gold from the Metallic Gold Twine and now it matches perfectly.
  • The dotted border is just me and my trusty ruler making dots with a marker.

Stamps: Something To Say, From the Garden  Inks: Blackberry Bliss  Papers: Very Vanilla, Blackberry Bliss, Farmers Market DSP  Accessories: Metallic Gold Twine, Glue Dots, Stampin' Dimensionals, Blackberry Bliss marker

CASED from: Susan Itell - thanks so much, I just adore your work!

Pansy Window

Friday, October 30, 2015

This is a tricky card to photograph so I hope you can see well enough the window effect.  It's really nice to have a sentiment that can be for both the front of the card as well as inside.

Fiona's notes: I like how the pansy on the right isn't confined to the edge of the card.  In the same way I like that they encroach on the window.  Who said a card has to have square lines?!

Stamps: Flower Shop, Blessed By God  Inks:  Memento black  Papers:  Whisper White thick, Basic Black, Regals Background DSP  Accessories Neutrals Candy Dots, Squares Framelits, Pansy Punch, Perfect Polka Dot Embossing Folder

CASED from Sharon Burket - thanks so much!

Thinking of you twice

Friday, October 23, 2015

My poor father, he's at an age now when he is sending more sympathy cards than any other type of card.  He asked if I could make some for him that weren't too sombre.  I found a lovely design by Michelle Last and knew he'd love it.  Thanks for the inspiration, Michelle!

Fiona's notes: The Calypso Coral isn't actually as vibrant as looks in the photo, it came out almost fluro didn't it?

Stamps: Thoughts and Prayers  Inks: Craft White, Calypso Coral  Papers: Whisper White thick, Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder  Accessories: Pearls

Love Heart Petite Petals

Saturday, October 17, 2015

A little flowery love never did anyone any harm!

Fiona's notes: Lay all your flowers out before sticking them down so that you can adjust where necessary to make the heart shape.

Stamps: Petit Petals, Itty Bitty Banners, Gorgeous Grunge  Inks: Costal Cabana, Baked Brown Sugar, Blue Sky  Papers: Whisper White thick, Whisper White, Costal Cabana  Accessories: rhinestones

CASED from: Marie-Claire - thanks so much!

Simple Baby Elephant

Saturday, October 10, 2015

Not all cards need sentiments.  Here's a pretty example of a card that needs no words.

Fiona's notes:  Wavy scissors make a good replacement for the scalloped edge punch if you
don't have it.

Stamp: Zoo Babies Inks: Blushing Bride, Pacific Point Papers: Smoky Slate, Whisper White, Neutrals DSP Accessories: Circles Framelits, Chevron Ribbon, Pearls, Stampin Dimensionals

Inspiration from: Pootles - thanks so much!

Card Challenge

Wreath panel

Friday, October 02, 2015

Every year I make a range of cards to sell which are different to the ones I personally send my friends and family.  I really love how the sentiment turned out so that the "merry" comes up almost gold looking.  Gotta have a bit of elegant sparkle at Christmas!

I also made matching tags this year.  Bit of fun!

Blog challenge: This week Stamp Ink Paper's challenge is "Card Maker's Choice" and I've entered this card.  Go take a look at some of the other great work people have entered.

Fiona's notes: I quite like that the wreath stamp isn't perfectly round.  What proper wreath ever is?

Stamps: Wreath for All Seasons (PTI), Endless Wishes  Inks: Baked Brown Sugar, Cherry Cobbler  Papers: Kraft, Whisper White  Accessories: Simply Scored, Scalloped Tag Topper Punch, Linen Thread, Stampin Dimensionals, Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine

Card Challenge

Christmas bow

Saturday, September 26, 2015

I am in full Christmas craft mode at the moment and so in love with this card that I just couldn't resist sharing it with you!  I really love kraft with white and the Cherry Cobbler has always been my favourite Christmas colour, so this is the perfect combo for me.

Fiona's notes: This week over at the Just Add Ink blog challenge their theme is "Add you three favourite colours."  Now, there are some of you who will argue that white isn't a colour, but as I'm using it not as a base card but as a highlight itself I think it definitely counts and so this card is just perfect for the challenge.  I totally love how the white trim of the ribbon matches the white border around the top layer.

Stamps: Endless Wishes, Signature Christmas (PTI)  Inks:  Memento Black, Fresh Snow (PTI)  Papers:  Whisper White, Kraft (PTI)  Accessories: Cherry Cobbler Grosgrain Ribbon

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Santa box

Monday, September 21, 2015

I know, I know, it's only September you say, why are you pumping out Christmas stuff already?  Well, there are people out there who are as organised as I am and who make as many cards and gifts as I do which means, September's the time to get started!

Fiona's notes: These make cute little gifts at Christmas time.  Why not tie some fishing wire to them and hang a few on the tree, or write names on the tags and use them as place settings.

Stamps: Good Greetings (Hostess set)  Inks: Memento Black  Papers:  Real Red, Basic Black, Whisper white, Silver Foil  Accessories: Basic Black Taffeta Ribbon

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Blog hop

Christmas circles

Sunday, September 20, 2015

It's been a while since I last participated in a Crazy Crafters blog hop so I'm excited about this one.  You might recall my post "Circles of Thanks" from about 6 weeks ago. Click here to see it.  I entered it into the Stamp Ink Paper challenge and was thrilled when it was chosen as one of the winners.  So here I am again with that winning formula only this time I've chosen a Christmas theme and I'm highlighting some of the beautiful Merry Moments papers.

Fiona's notes: I love how in this version the circles resemble baubles.  I actually think I prefer this version!  What do you think?  Let me know in a comment below.

Stamps: Endless Wishes Inks: Smoky Slate, Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive  Papers: Merry Moments DSP, Smoky Slate, Whisper White (thick and regular)  Accessories: rhinestones, stampin dimensionals
